How We Got Here

From the growth of suburban development in Davidson County in the 1950’s to today’s emphasis on urban infill, Green Hills has been a magnet for new businesses, new residents, and expanded opportunities in Nashville.  These opportunities meant more cars, more parking spaces, new streets, improvements to existing streets, more signs, retail outlets, homes, buses and everything else we associate with growth.

Yet the footprint of Hillsboro Road itself has changed very little. The ability of the road to handle all the traffic from the increasing mixture of residential, commercial, school and commuting traffic has not kept pace with the needs. Over the years, various studies and recommendations have been made. On this page, we document some of the plans, studies, reports, and improvements that have been recommended by business, government, and residents of Green Hills.

Included below is a presentation from Metro Planning that summarizes the previous studies for Hillsboro Road. We also have links if you want to explore the studies themselves. Our new Green Hills Area Plan will take all these into account, along with the most current and up-to-date information available on how people live, shop, and travel in Green Hills.
